In today's fast-paced world, children's creativity often gets squeezed out by screens and homework. But art doesn't have to be a formal 'class' or 'training'—it's more like a habit, a way of seeing the world. This week, we'd like to share a few simple, practical ways to help creativity flourish at home.
1. Create a 'Creative Corner'
It doesn't need much space—a small drawer, a shoebox, or a little table works perfectly. Fill it with paper, markers, scissors, glue, and other basic supplies. When art materials are within easy reach, kids are more likely to dive in on their own.
2. Set Aside a 'Creative Time' Each Day
Even ten minutes can make a difference. It could be right after breakfast or just before bed. The key is consistency and ritual. You'll be amazed how quickly children come to look forward to their own 'magic moment' of creation.
3. Let Kids Take the Lead
They might draw a blue cat or glue buttons onto paper—so what? Art has no right answers. Try saying 'What do you think?' more often than 'You should…'. When children feel they have choices and ownership, they enjoy the process much more.
4. Celebrate the Process, Not Just the Outcome
Instead of asking 'What is it?', try 'How did you come up with that idea?' or 'What's your favourite part?' When children see we're interested in their thinking, they become more willing to experiment and less afraid of mistakes.
5. Create Together
You don't need to be an artist. Just sit down with your child, pick up a crayon, and make something wonderfully silly. Your example is powerful—when kids see you enjoying the act of creating, they naturally believe that art is part of everyday life.
